Dharma Life
Illustration System · Visual Storytelling · Social Impact Communication
A hand-drawn illustration system created for Dharma Life, focused on communicating themes around rural women, girls, education, clean energy, livelihood, health and community development.
The visual language combines detailed line drawing with a restrained palette of warm orange, deep blue and soft neutral backgrounds. Human stories sit at the centre of the system, supported by symbolic objects such as lanterns, books, sewing machines, water taps and cooking equipment.
The aim was to make social-impact communication feel warm, relatable and culturally grounded, while creating a consistent illustration style that could work across reports, books, educational material, campaigns and printed communication.
The project needed to communicate a wide range of development themes without making the work feel institutional or overly technical.
Topics such as:
education
women’s empowerment
livelihood
clean energy
health and hygiene
sanitation
nutrition
technology
community development
can easily become abstract when expressed only through statistics or programme language.
The illustration system was designed to bring those themes back to people and everyday life.
The objective was simple:
Turn development topics into visual stories people can immediately understand and emotionally connect with.
